Most people think they need to create more content. But just creating more is rarely the solution when what you already have isn’t yet being seen enough. In this post, you’ll get a real example of how one idea becomes many. Then I’ll walk you through 17 specific ways to repurpose content on Instagram so you can start doing it this week.
In 2021, after getting what I thought was a mild case of COVID, I started dealing with chronic health problems that made creating new content every day impossible. Repurposing what I already had wasn’t just a strategy anymore. It was how I kept showing up.
What I found was that it also made my marketing more effective, not less. So I started helping clients do the same thing with their message. If you’re ready to get more out of the content you’re already creating, here are 17 ways to repurpose content on Instagram, for Instagram, and from Instagram.

Why repurpose content on Instagram?
There are many reasons why it pays to repurpose on Instagram. Here are a few of them.
Different people prefer different kinds of content
Different people like different types of content. They also often consume different types of content at different times of day. For example, I might want to watch Reels or YouTube Shorts on a quick break from work, but I might listen to a book on tape or a podcast while going for a walk. And, I definitely don’t want to read a long story above a recipe when I’m hungry for dinner! (I’m team “jump to recipe.”)
Short form video, long form blogs, podcasts, in-depth videos, these all appeal to people for different reasons. If you create content in different formats, there is more chance of connecting with the right people.

Build reach and engagement
If you’re creating content that appeals to different people, you will create more reach and engagement. Some think they have to create fresh content each time they post. But if you learn to repurpose and reshape your ideas into different types of content, that will allow you to create more impactful content faster and build your reach with less effort.
Save time and effort for the other important stuff you need to do
What really moves the needle in your business? Some of my clients report saving 20 hours a week by outsourcing their content repurposing to me. Whether you decide to hire someone or do the work yourself, learning how to repurpose is guaranteed to save you time.
Create more impact
Studies estimate that people need to see something at least seven times before it really registers. That Instagram post you made? Not every follower saw it. And even if they did, they probably didn’t absorb it. Repurposing is a way to say the same thing more than once, in a fresh way, without starting from scratch.
What repurposing actually looks like: one idea, four formats
Here’s a concrete example. Let’s say your core idea is: “Why it pays to repurpose your content.”
This is something a coach, consultant, or creative might know instinctively but hasn’t put into words clearly. Here’s how you’d take that one idea and shape it for four different formats.
LinkedIn post
You’d write a short, opinionated take. Something like: “Everyone tells you to post more. Nobody tells you to post smarter. Here’s what repurposing your content actually does for your reach…” Keep it conversational, end with a question to spark comments, and aim for 150 to 300 words.
Instagram Reel
You’d strip it down to one punchy point you can make in 30 to 60 seconds. Maybe it’s the stat about needing to see something seven times before it lands. You say it straight to camera, add captions, and link to your blog post or freebie in the caption.
Email newsletter
You’d open with a short story, maybe a time you were exhausted and had nothing left to post, and repurposing saved you. Then you’d tie it back to the practical lesson and close with one clear call to action, whether that’s booking a session, downloading a guide, or replying to the email.
Blog post
This is where you go deep. You cover the why, the how, give examples, and include the practical steps. You optimize it for search so people can find it months or even years later. This post is a good example of this process.
One idea. Four formats. Each one serves a different reader in a different moment. That’s the point of repurposing.

How to repurpose content on Instagram
You know that existing content you have on Instagram? You’re going to use it to create new pieces that still speak to your ideal client. Here’s how.

Repurpose Reels into carousel posts
Review your Reels and find the ones with the highest reach or the most interesting comments. Decide which will translate well into carousel posts. Add additional context or step-by-step instructions and a compelling visual feel. Keep the text on each slide simple and use the caption to go into more detail.
You can also flip this and convert carousel posts into Reels. Identify the main point of your carousel and use that as the hook for your video.
Use carousel posts to outline an Instagram Live
The expertise you share in your carousel posts could be perfect material for a Live. Get the word out in advance so your community can show up and ask questions.

Turn your feed posts into Reels
Look at your insights and see which posts resonated most. Sort through your captions looking for useful, inspirational, opinionated, or educational content because these categories tend to work well as Reels. Envision how you’ll show the theme visually, map it out, and film.
Turn Instagram poll results into data-driven infographics
Through polls in your Stories, you may have gathered real intel about your audience, like their biggest challenges, what they’re struggling with, and the kind of support they need. Design an infographic that shows the trends you’ve found and add a call to action so people know how to work with you.

How to repurpose from Instagram to other platforms
Use Reels for long form blog posts
Find Reels that fit a specific theme demonstrating your expertise. Use a tool like Descript to get the transcript, then order the content into a cohesive blog post. Do keyword research with a tool like Keysearch to help people find it. Not sure how to put it all together? That’s exactly what my Done-For-You Content Creation service is for. You bring the ideas, I’ll handle the rest.
Transform Instagram Live videos into YouTube or podcast episodes
When uploading your Live to YouTube, research keywords and use one in your title. Intersperse related phrases into your description and add links to your website or services.
For a podcast episode, use Descript to remove the video and clean up noise or filler words. Or use the Live as an outline and re-record with proper equipment. By the second take, you’ll be much more confident

Write email newsletters featuring popular Instagram content
Reuse your Instagram captions as the basis for emails. Use them as short thought pieces or add a few paragraphs with a story tied to the theme. You can also screenshot posts and drop them into your email to spark conversation around topics your audience cares about.

Use Instagram comments as inspiration for Q&A blog posts
What questions are your audience asking in the comments? About your service, your process, your niche? Use those questions to build a Q&A blog post. It answers what people are already curious about and gives you built-in SEO material.
Collect Instagram captions for a blog post series
Look at which captions align with your current business goals. Group them by theme. Use them as inspiration rather than copying them verbatim. Readers want depth in a blog post, so add context and detail to give them something worth reading.
Compile user-generated content into a social proof gallery on your website
UGC is powerful because it shows potential clients that real people trust you. Build a gallery on your website, write blog posts featuring individual client stories, or share one piece of UGC at a time with context about why it matters.
Create blog posts or guest blogs from Instagram captions
If you start your content on Instagram, use your captions as blog post starting points. Posts with lots of comments, or even ones where people disagreed with you, often make the best long-form pieces. What additional context can you add in a longer format?
Convert carousel posts into slide deck presentations
Carousel posts translate naturally into slide decks. Text is minimal, slides are bold, and the format keeps attention. Consider repurposing carousels as LinkedIn slide decks or presentations. Just check the aspect ratio for whichever platform you’re sharing to.
Transform Instagram Stories highlights into YouTube video tutorials
Your highlights are a great place to find authority-building content. If you have highlights that teach something, download the content or find it in your archive and re-upload to YouTube with a searchable title and description. This helps people who don’t follow you on Instagram yet discover your work.
I have an Instagram series in my Highlights that teaches people how to repurpose for different platforms. (Hard to believe, I know!)

How to repurpose for Instagram from other platforms
Repurpose blog posts into visually compelling graphics
Take the main message from a blog post and turn it into a graphic. A post about five things you’ve learned coaching clients becomes a carousel with one point per slide. Keep fonts legible, simplify the text, and use the caption to add more detail. Work smarter, not harder.

Convert long form videos into short teaser Reels
Splice long form video from YouTube, webinars, or your website into short teaser Reels. Which moments will pique interest and get people to watch the full thing or reach out to you?
Transform podcast episodes into Instagram Stories or audiograms
Whether it’s your own podcast or a guest appearance, that content is excellent for Instagram Stories and audiograms. Share short snippets in Stories and link to the full episode. Or use a tool like Canva to pair an audio clip with a static visual and an audio waveform so viewers know to turn the sound on.
Turn client testimonials into quote graphics or Reels
Have former clients said great things about working with you? Get creative with how you share it. Quote graphics, Reels that tell the story behind the testimonial, a photo of your client, a case study, or even a Live conversation with them: all of these work and all of them build trust.
I thought this one, by a fellow business owner, Robyn, was funny and great!

Also, consider making the testimonial more personal by sharing a photo of your client, turning it into a deep-dive case study, or even asking your client to do a Live to talk about some of the same points they wrote in the testimonial.
Why repurpose again?
Repurposing your content is not really about creating more. It’s about getting more out of what you already have.
What’s the point of endlessly creating low-quality pieces that don’t inspire thought or conversation? AI can churn that out on its own. Repurposing lets you say something meaningful, say it in more than one way, and reach more people without burning yourself out doing it.
Which of these strategies are you going to try first? Let me know in the comments.
Or maybe you want someone to handle this process for you. My Done-For-You Content Creation service takes the ideas you already have and turns them into blogs, emails, and social posts that sound like you and support your goals. Let’s talk.
