Why your content isn’t getting clients (and what to do about it in 90 minutes)

You probably don’t have a content problem. You have a clarity problem. In this article, I’ll show you how to create content that converts — starting with a few questions most people never think to ask.

Most coaches, consultants, and creatives I talk to have a notes app full of ideas, a folder of half-finished drafts, and months of posts that didn’t quite land the way they hoped. The content exists. What’s missing is the thread that connects it all to what you’re selling and who you’re trying to reach. And understanding that, my friend, is how you create content that converts.

My Content Clarity Sessions are designed to solve this problem in 90 minutes.

Why your content isn’t converting

You have plenty of content ideas… maybe too many. But you’re not sure which ideas actually connect to what you’re selling, or how to turn them into finished pieces without spending hours second-guessing every word. And even when you do post, it doesn’t seem to be bringing in the clients you want.

You know it’s possible to create content that attracts the right people. You’re just not sure how to get there.

Want to DIY this content clarity process first? Here are the questions to ask

Before we get on a call together, here are three questions worth sitting with:

1. What are the 1-2 offers you want to consistently market in the next 6 months? Not everything you could sell,  just what you’re actively promoting right now.

2. Who specifically do you want to reach with your content? Think about one real person you’d love to work with. Where do they spend time online? What do they struggle with?

3. What stories or expertise do you have that connect directly to those offers? What do you know or have experienced that would make that specific person think, “She gets it”?

Once you have those three things clear, you’re ready to start creating content that actually works.

And when it comes to getting more mileage from every piece you create, get my free guide: 15 Ways to Repurpose Your Content, because a good idea has way more mileage in it than just one post.

What happens in our 90 minutes together?

  1. What are you selling?

We start by getting clear on the services you want to sell in the next 6 months. Not everything you could sell, we really focus on 1-2 offers you plan to consistently market. I ask a series of questions that will help you clarify this for yourself.

  1. Who are you selling to?

Once we know what you’re selling, we talk about who you’re selling it to. Where do these people spend time? What types of content resonates with them?

  1. What is your zone of genius?

Next, we discuss how your expertise fits in with the type of content we can create. What are you uniquely equipped to talk about? Which of your fabulous stories will connect and help people decide to work with you?

  1. We put some elbow grease in and write together

Once all of that is clear, we create 1-2 pieces of content together. That could be LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram posts, or an email for your list. We work on the content piece(s) (1-2 as time allows) until they’re ready to publish.

  1. We identify ways to multiply your content ideas

Next, we talk about how you can reuse and repurpose these ideas for other types of content. Maybe we have written an email together. How could you use that content to create a carousel post for Instagram? Or how could you use one of the points in your email as a topic for a talking-head Reel? You walk away with at least 3 viable ideas for how to repurpose the content we create together.

What’s in your hands by the end of our call

1) You’ll have the copy for 1-2 captions or emails.

2) You’ll have 3 ways to repurpose that content into 3 more pieces.

3) And you’ll have a recording and transcript of our call, which you can refer to anytime you need.

Revisit the steps from the call, and let them guide your process so that you have the content clarity you need to create compelling pieces that draw your audience in.

But that’s not actually all, because I know it’s easy to get stuck along the way.

It all seemed clear in the call, but now you’re feeling stuck and hesitant again

I know it’s helpful to have support along the way, and that’s why I check in with you by email a week later. I ask how you’re getting on with your content. Have you posted the piece(s) we created together? Have you started working on the repurposing ideas?

Do you need more help tying your expertise into content pieces that speak to your people? Would you benefit from a bit more help? We can either hash things out over email, or I offer another 30-minute call if another conversation would help you keep up the momentum. These things are included in the cost of the Content Clarity Session. Take me up on it if you need it; feel free to reject the offer if you don’t.

What this looked like for one of my clients

Kritika, a graphic and web designer, came to me struggling with content creation. She knew she needed to show up consistently, but couldn’t figure out what to create or how it connected to her business. It felt like a time suck with no results.

Through our work together, she discovered that simple personal stories could connect with her audience.

I still think about the Instagram story she shared about how she only likes candy if she can have one on the right and one on the left side of her mouth at the same time. And a post where she showed a behind-the-scenes look at designing a pole dance website for one of her clients. Specific, unexpected, and completely her. That’s exactly what makes content stick.

Kritika learned that her content didn’t have to be perfect to be effective. Releasing the perfectionism was powerful. Not long after, she shared this comment in our Slack messaging board:

Kritika, one of my former clients, writes, "I am ready to scream because I have the next 110 posts ready to be posted." This is the power of getting clear on what you want to say.

Kritika’s biggest shift was realizing that anything can become content when it ties back to your values, approach, and offers.

That’s exactly the kind of clarity we create together in a Content Clarity Session.
